Stirring the pot
Stirring the Pot
Scripture Anchor:
"Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts." — Psalm 139:23
"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God…" — James 1:5
There are moments in our lives when everything feels unsettled. Circumstances shift. Emotions rise. Questions surface. It feels as if God has taken the spoon and begun stirring the pot of our lives.
I once shared this message before, but as I revisited it today, it stirred my heart again.
Sometimes God has to stir the pot in your life so you can see what rises to the surface.
When you cook soup, the richest nutrients often rise to the top when the pot is stirred. Yet many times, we skim that layer off and throw it away without realizing it contains substance and value.
In the same way, when God allows movement, pressure, or even discomfort in our lives, it is often to reveal what is already there — answers we have prayed for, wisdom we have received, convictions He has placed in our hearts.
But sometimes we overlook them.
We ask God for solutions, and when they surface, we dismiss them because they are not packaged the way we expected. We receive clarity, but we do not examine it closely. We sense direction, but we set it aside.
So God stirs again.
Not to harm us.
Not to confuse us.
But to clarify.
Sometimes what feels like disruption is actually revelation.
God may allow what feels like a small revolution in your life to bring to the surface what you have been ignoring. The answers may already be visible. The guidance may already be present. Yet without spiritual discernment, we skim over what was meant to nourish us.
The question is not always, “God, why are You stirring this?”
Sometimes the real question is, “Lord, what are You showing me that I have not been paying attention to?”
Reflection
What has recently “risen to the surface” in my life?
Have I dismissed any answers because they were uncomfortable or unexpected?
Is God stirring me to pay closer attention?
Prayer
Lord, if You must stir the pot of my life, do it with purpose.
Give me eyes to see what rises.
Give me wisdom to discern what is from You.
Help me not to discard the very answers I have prayed for.
Teach me to recognize Your voice, even when it comes through disruption.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
