A Heart that Seeks God
The Lord woke me up at 3:21 in the morning today to write these verses and share them with you.
Psalm 24:3-5 reminds us:
Question:
Who will ascend to the mountain of the Lord?
Who will stand in His holy place?
Answer:
He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to vanity or sworn deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of salvation.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
— Matthew 5:8
“May He grant you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.”
— Psalm 20:4
But notice carefully what this verse teaches. God’s promise is not a license for selfish desires. If the longing of the heart is to obtain what belongs to others or to pursue vain and worldly ambitions, we should not expect God to approve such desires.
We must examine our hearts. If our motives are rooted in pride or worldly gain, God is not pleased with that condition, and He will not grant requests that contradict His will.
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
— Psalm 37:4
Many misunderstand this truth. They assume they deserve everything they want, even when their desires are shaped by worldly thinking. For God to fulfill the desires of our heart, our heart itself must be pure.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
— Psalm 51:10
“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? I, the Lord, search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”
— Jeremiah 17:9-10
“You ask and do not receive because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend it on your pleasures. Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”
— James 4:3-4
The Lord helped me understand that some people believe they can continue living a worldly lifestyle simply because they have accepted Him. But genuine faith leads to transformation.
He who believes in God turns away from sin.
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
— Matthew 6:21
“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in Him.”
— Psalm 37:23
“The Lord delights in His people; He crowns the humble with salvation.”
— Psalm 149:4
“Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in His commands.”
— Psalm 112:1
True love for God does not take pleasure in wrongdoing.
“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
— 1 Corinthians 13:6-7
“As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.”
— Proverbs 27:19
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
— Proverbs 4:23
“For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, and slander.”
— Matthew 15:19
Reflection
God sees beyond outward appearances. He searches the heart and examines our motives. The journey of faith is not merely about profession but transformation—allowing Him to shape our desires so they align with His purpose.
A pure heart is not a perfect heart. It is a heart that seeks God, repents when it falls, and desires His righteousness above all things.
May we be people who walk in truth, love what God loves, and pursue His will with sincerity.
Amen.
